Notice that the poster said that the ball hit a player in fair territory.
"Ball is popped down third baseline. hits the ground foul, then bounces into a player the ump says is in fair ground?" He never tells us whether the BALL was in fair territory when it hit the player. Bottom line, we still don't have enough information to make the call. Where was the BALL?
