If possible, you need to try them on first before you buy. They both fit differently and they don't fit everyone. I have owned both of them and now I do not own either of them.

Needed to upgrade cp due to many foul balls to the top of the shoulder/neck area. Bought the Platinum and have been very happy since.

One caveat: cushion at low neckline in front/center of cp sometimes rubs the dangling throat guard. Not a hindrance.

The platinum has more protection "on top" of the shoulders. Those using the GD and scissors tend to lean forward more.

Hey all,

The Platinum has shoulder pads that are more on top of the shoulder, whereas the Gold has the pads more in front of the shoulder. Depending on how much "lean in" you have with your stance determines where you need more shoulder protection at.

There is a sale going on at Gerry Davis on WV Gold, Platinum and Original. If you ever wanted one and haven't bought this is a good time.

Talking eBay score!

Scored a WV Gold off eBay today for $60 plus shipping. Woohoo!

Of course, the comments about the Platinum being maybe better for the GD-type stance (which is essentially what I do, I suppose) have me a bit on guard, though I don't feel like I lean that much, and I've tried on a fellow blue's Gold, and felt better protected than I am now, so I'll give 'er a rip and let you know what I think.
