McDavid or Underarmour?
do you prefer mcdavid, underarmour, or some other brad for 1. compression pants and 2. undershirts? and maybe why?
thanks |
I like both equally. I think UnderArmor has more variety of products, but McDavid's products are just as solid. I do wear only the compression pants from UnderArmor. I wear compression shirts from McDavid and UnderArmor and like both.

Well Since You Asked

Basically you cant go wrong with either product. Dick Honig said there was some study, and they are all equally as effective, just UA has spent more $$ on advertising. |
UA hands down, except for one, single item: the ankle-length leggings. UA doesn't make one with a built in cup pocket; McDavid does. Therefore, I stick with the grey McD ankle-length leggings.

UA is my choice for the next couple of years...Great product that I get at an awesome price. Thanks to work.

I have skin tight shirts made by Nike, UA, McDavid, and some cheap "Wal Mart" brand. UA is by far the best. I have UA and McDavid tights and UA is once again much better. UA does not make tights with a cup pocket though.
|
I have UA heat gear shirts in blue and black and will probably also get some white. There is nothing like UA when temps are constantly above 100. I do wear the McDavid tights because they are good and the cup pocket position is great. Also the leg guards are easier to keep clean and smelling fresh longer when wearing the leggings.
I did send in a product suggestion to UA for leggings with a cup pocket like the McDavid's but who knows what if anything will come of that. |
You're not the only one who has made such a suggestion to the UA folks. I've done it each of the last two years, and each time I got the same response, which was essentially, "Thank you, we'll look into it."

The Cold Gear is worth every penny, though. |
All of my stuff is McDavid. Never had a problem with them and their stuff works great.

The biggest trick ever played on the umpiring community was "here, layer up, you'll be cooler!"
120 F CA San Joaquin Valley Heat and you are wearing those things you feel your sanity slowly slipping. |
Is it a trick? I don't believe so. I've worked in 100* + heat and extreme humidity--humidity DOES make a difference compared to just dry heat--and I've always worn UA undershirts (McDavid's on my legs due to the aforementioned cup pocket). I NEVER go without a UA undershirt. They've made a huge difference.

i just wear a mcdavid "interawear" mock under my shirts, in the appropriate color.
i do have a few underarmor short-sleeve shirts and sometimes i'll put one of those on for a very hot game on the plate as for on the legs, i've only worn ankle length UA a few times. i normally wear compression shorts over a regular jock, since i dont like the feel of built-in pouches on those. |

The pants are hell in real heat If you are working an entire day several games in abnormally high heat, for me - those compression pants were the worst. I was noticeably cooler when I stopped believing the BS that layering up in the heat makes you cooler and stopped wearing the compression pants. Somewhere, some guy said "Hey, I'm going to invent skin tight compression pants and tell people that if they wear them under their normal clothes they will be cooler" His buddy told him "No one is going to believe that, people have been wearing long johns in the winter a long time to keep you warm. Everyone knows more clothes = more hot" "I'll put it on the label that it makes you cooler and draw an arrow showing them how it makes you cooler, they will buy it" "It will never work" But he was wrong, it did work. |
