Interference?

F2 and no outs. B1 hits a ground ball to F6 that is slowed down due to wet grass. F2 originally anticipated a faster ground ball and had run a few steps past F6 heading for third base. Now realizing the ball is moving slower backs up a few steps to screen F6 from seeing the ball and then runs by him a second time. F6 still fielded the ball and threw out B1 at first base. Is this interference?

Yes.

OFFENSIVE INTERFERENCE :

is an act by the team at bat which interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders or confuses any fielder attempting to make a play.

So let me get this straight, the catcher, F2, somehow confuses the shortstop, F6 who nonetheless throws out the batter who is at first base...right?

Even a Rhodes Scholar and MBA summa cum laude like myself realized right away that he meant to say "R2," rather than "F2."
