Pete,

I agree with your assessment of the LL
play and why it was probably missed. I
do feel, and this is strictly JMO, that
maybe FU2 (and yes, that does mean field
umpire 2, and nothing more
), could have
and probaly should have stayed outside and
not tried to get inside on this particular
play. Realize proper mehcanics call for U2
to come in, also realize mechanics are also
guidelines and can be deviated from.

You are correct in feeling that plate umpire
would probably have best view on this and with
a four man crew, no runner on 2B or 3B, after
watching ball to outfield on 60' diamond his
position just about rite for him to see the
runner going to 2B.
