Batter steps over plate trying to bunt
Guys/gals what is the correct call for batter stepping over home plate trying to bunt?

I said he is automatically out as he has stepped out the batters box.

Where were his feet when contact was made between bat and ball? One in the box? The other? In the air? On the ground?

To be called out, at least one foot must be on the ground completely out of the batter's box when contact is made between bat and ball.

Stepping out of the box doesn't make it an automatic out. The batter has to have at least one foot on the ground completely out of the box and make contact with the ball. The lines are considered part of the box, so in OBR at least, a batter could conceivably have part of his foot on the plate and still be in the box. Here's the rule.


6.06(a) A batter is out for illegal action when he hits a ball with one or both feet on the ground entirely outside the batter’s box.

No contact was made the batter IMO stepped completely out the box with both feet.
One foot on plate the other outside box.

What you have described is "nothing". Call the pitch a ball or strike based on whether or not the batter "offered" at the pitch (sounds like he did); or, if he didn't offer, the location of the pitch.

Yes from the instant replay you can see why this inexperienced batter ran. This is LL juniors and the pony league balls have more defined seams than a major league ball----- the kid throws a 2 foot breaker at about 30mph no-one has crushed this pitch yet.

Thanks for your replies. I was wrong because he didnt make contact.
