Still Wiping My Eyes

If you haven't seen the video of Jim Moore, amature umpire, it really puts what we do in perspective!

Its on ESPN's video motion page

Its called "Jim Moore passed away on November 25"

I had the priviledge of working a few high school and legion games with Jim several years ago. If I remember correctly we also did some Babe Ruth stuff as well. While I didn't know him well I can tell you that in our area he was a highly respected umpire.

I still work amateur games with his partner shown in the piece. We were on the same crew for the Cal Ripkin regionals last year and have been in the same association for as long as I've been a member which is about 16 years. He also had a cancer scare. Both of them are good guys.

It's actually called "Baseball gives back to an umpire who dedicated his life to the game." It is about 6:30 long and for some reason is a bear to load. I'm having problems getting it to load on my corporate T-1 line.

I saw it on ESPN the other day and just cried. It made me very thankful for the health I have. Despite the myriad of health problems I have, what happened to him put it in perspective, and made me stop and think of how fortunate and blessed I truly am. I feel so bad for his widow, as she just loved him so much. He had many friends too, judging by the turnout at his funeral.

IceGator, you are lucky to have worked with a class act like Jim Moore.

Start the video and pause it for a few minutes. It just isn't buffering fast enough to stream it, but if you let the download get ahead by a minute or two you should be fine.

Agreed with the others. It sounds like Jim was a heckuva a guy and a lot of people love and remember him. What more could one ask for in life?

I just watched the video. What a poignant story that tugs at the heart from beginning to end. I'm guessing that many of us can relate the deep love Mr. Moore felt for the game and his umpiring.

God bless him.
