Chest Protector

Guys,

I was wondering what kind of chest protector you guys recommend for me using this year. I'll be umpiring 11-12 year olds.

Also if anybody has a spare chest protector they don't use anymore or want a few bucks for one please let me know.

I currently use a regular catcher chest protector. Don't think that's to safe.

Thanks All and glad to be back on the board.

Ted

And theres a bunch like them on Ebay right now @ a great price! Click on "Sporting Goods", click on "Protective Gear" under "Baseball & Softball" then in the search box enter "Umpire Chest Protector." Look around for a hard shell chest protector. You should be able to find a good one for around $50-$100 depending on how good of one you get.

In our area most beginning umpires of 11-12 year old baseball use a league supplied external (balloon or raft) protector. It is not a bad way to start since you are not likely to get hurt when the catcher misses the pitch so you won't develop bad habits. Many umpires around here use the Diamond ribbed protectors like the ones at this online source http://www.btlofficialsgear.com. They are probably the least expensive new chest protectors. I have also seen them at some sporting goods stores. I use an Itech Davis protector, similar to the Wilson Davis protector at btl and http://www.gerrydavis.com. It has done fine for me through high school ball.

I have a brand new Diamond iX3 that I will sell you

I have the above named CP that will definitely work for you for sale for $48 plus shipping. Brand new with tag. I bought it for High School use and decided it didn't feel right for me. It costs way more than that at most sites if you can find it. It it sold out of most. This is a link to a site that has this CP.

Get a good hard shell and you will be set for 11-12 and for higher level play should you decide to move up. I use a V-sport 13 inch. I bought it locally but you can get it online also.

I bought one just like this one from Itech at the end of the season last year. The second game I used it in was a 12/13 yo game. I took a shot to the collar bone when the catcher cleanly missed the pitch. I had to call time and work that one out of me. As far as I'm concerned these are junk for anything higher then small diamond games!

BTW... I've got one for sale now with only 2 games on it! Cheap!

Best investment you'll ever make and Lester's has pretty darn good customer service too! Very reputable seller!
