I'm new to this board and not quite sure what the abbreviations mean. Especially the ones like F1 or F4. I have no idea what this means. Are there any other abbreviations that I should be aware of so when I'm reading a post or response it makes more sense. Thanks.

Mike

Well,

Let's see:

F1 = The Pitcher
F2 = The Catcher
F3 = The First Baseman

Then you just follow the normal alpha-numeric system used in the score book.

R1 = Runner who starts at first (we add the terminology as he advances i.e. when he gets to third he is R3 -- In FED the runner retains the same number and is referred to as "R1, who is now on 3rd base">).
R2 = Starts at second
ETC.

FED = National Federation of High Schools (AKA, FEDlandia)

J/R = A resource book written by Rick Roder and Chris Jaksa that attempts to clarify the mysteries of mostly OBR.

OBR = Official Baseball Rules (AKA, "The Big Book", "Major League Rules", "Pro Rules").

JEA = Jim Evans seminal work (out of print at this time) on the history and interpretations of OBR.

BRD = Baseball Rules Differences -- Another seminal work by Carl Childress that extrapolates the differences between OBR, FED and NCAA Baseball rules. A must have if an umpire works mulitple codes.

B/R = Batter runner -- This is the term for action from the time a batter hits the ball and reaches first base successefully (or not).

WOBW = Waste of bandwidth. Refers to most posts by two select individuals. You'll find them yourself.

PU -- Plate umpire (also called UIC in some posts).

BU -- Base Umpire -- please don't call him the FU (I think that means field umpire but it could mean fuk up).

"A" -- The starting position for the BU (FU if you're working with a couple of posters -- see above) with no runners on base.

"B" -- The starting position for the BU with runners on certian bases under certain mechanic systems. Located in a position part way between the back of the pitcher's mound and second base in a line disected by an imaginary line that runs approximately from the inside line of the left handed batters box to the first base edge of the second base bag.

"C" -- See above and move it to the thirs base side of the pitcher's mound.

"D" -- A position inversely proportionate to "A" and is used only in multiple umpiring system.

IMHO = in my humble opinion
JMO = just my opinion
AA = almost adult
IFF = infield fly
TOP = time of pitch
TOT = time of throw
DBT = dead ball territory

I'm not sure what MILF is. I hate to think.

Wink

MILFs help pass the time during a slow game, nice to take a peek between innings.

Depending on the quality of the MILF it can be hard not to take a peek during a live ball!

Too Bad...

The higher the level of game you work, the fewer MILFs there seem to be.
