Gee------
What I don't understand is that in this thread you don't accept PBUC ruling as official for OBR. Yet, in another forum (assuming you are the same Gee there as here), you discuss the details of a batted ball hitting a runner in the infield, and you promote the PBUC interpretation received by Carl. It seems contradictory to accept them as official for one scenerio regarding OBR but not the other. The issue regarding the runner hit by a batted ball has a differing authoritative opinion, that being Brinkman's (which Carl has now discarded in light of the recent PBUC ruling). I don't understand your self-contradiction in accepting PBUC rulings for OBR. Steve |

Steve:
First off I never said the BR was a force. In the example the runner that was tagged was a forced so there was no need to appeal first. NCAA said the BR is a force. That is probanly an unfortunate choice of words but it is what it is. As far as MLB not accepting PBUC's ruling I don't think they have said one way or the other. Many times umpires at the local level use their rulings as official because we don't have access to ask MLB. Each association may accept or reject at their disgression. I would probably use it because it is the only ruling we have that actually addresses the question. I do work NCAA and there I would have to use it, no choice there. |

Listen closely!!!!!
This thread was began because the NCAA offered an Official Interpretation regarding a runner being forced to first base. One more time, NCAA! If you work NCAA games, great! If you don't then don't waste time, web space, energy, thought, etc. on this issue. I don't care if Pony, LL, Babe Ruth or anyone else confirms this interp. I do know this though. NAPBL/PBUC backs up this interp. Once again the NCAA makes a move to align rules when possible. This is smart. If you work a league that uses OBR, I'm telling you that you're safe to use NAPBL/PBUC rulings in your games unless otherwise noted by your league. Who's going to argue with you, Pete the street sweeper, that happens to coach the Smith's Auto Plaza Dodgers? Oooh, now that is autoritative opinion. Give me a break. Some of the stupidest arguements I've ever seen are on this site. For all the good done here there sure does seem to be people that just want something to argue about. This thread was started with good intentions and has digressed onece again into lunacy. Regretable.
