I know it's not legal for a coach to stand behind home plate, but I know plenty of coaches and players that will try to do it, but not to check out an umps' strike zone.
The dugout is a terrible place to watch a pitcher/see his pitches. The area behind home plate is a much better vantage point to check out the pitcher - not the umpire. Occasionally, I'll see a coach or player standing back there and mention to the umpires - they usually just wave them away and we never have the issue for the rest of the game - just a coach trying to get any advantage possible. |

If this guy is quiet, I have no problem with this. I choose to assume he is back there for COACHING reasons (either for the catcher, pitcher, or both). But if this guy makes a single chirp about a single call, he's gone.
