1. For intentionally removing helmet during a live ball:
This is a delayed dead ball per rule 5-1-2e. The penalty is listed in Rule 1-4-5. 1st offence = Warning 2nd offence is ejection of offender. Dead ball/Delayed dead ball chart on pages 36-37 of NF rule book is an excellent resource to look at. 2. For intentionally removing helmet during dead ball: No penalty. 3. Accidental loss of helmet during live ball: No penalty. However according to Case book 1.4.5 Sit. F helmets worn should fit reasonable well in order to provide the proper protection for the wearer. This means that if a player wears a helmet whether so large or too small that it will not stay on that person is required to either get a better fitting helmet or secure the helmet (chin strap, tape, etc) so it does not come off. If they refuse they may not play or be on the field during a live ball. |

At the FED level, we are playing REAL baseball, not kiddy ball. If the helmet falls off (and I mean FALLS off), then play on. As soon as play ends, call time and allow the runner to retrieve his helmet. As stated above, if the runner intentionally removes his helmet in live ball territory, there is a rule to cover that. Hey LL guys, this isn't a rule down there about this, is there?

Mmmm,
Well said Ozzy. We are faced with silly questions even in leagues that play "real" baseball.
Golly Billy, if you write for this website I would expect that your background would include at least a strong knowledge of NFHS rules. Lah Me! [Edited by Tim C on Apr 1st, 2005 at 09:10 AM] |
