Hello,
I have been asked to be an official for base ball and fast ball in Michigan. I am a basketball official that has never once officiated baseball or softball. Is it hard?? What do i need to know?? I am considering it but do not want to be in over my head with the whole thing. ANy advice??? Websites?? Thanks |

Nice Tim. Way to chase off prospective umpires.
I don't officiate basketball, but I suspect the level of difficulty is similar. Get a grasp of the rules that will be used in your area first (there are several rulesets with minor difference - learn yours first before branching out). As to websites. Here is good. The rest have a lot of, well, Tim-C-type people on them, and (at the risk of redundancy) have a lot of trolls just seeking to stir the pot and piss people off. Come to think of it, that WAS redundant. |

My advice... attend the Bruce Doane Sr Umpire Camp in Grand Rapids, MI on Feb 4 - 6. It is a great experience, even for entry level baseball officials, and you learn a lot while making many umpire friends. Email me, [email protected] for more info.
