Hello,

I have been asked to be an official for base ball and fast ball in Michigan. I am a basketball official that has never once officiated baseball or softball. Is it hard?? What do i need to know?? I am considering it but do not want to be in over my head with the whole thing.

ANy advice??? Websites??

Thanks

Nice Tim. Way to chase off prospective umpires.

I don't officiate basketball, but I suspect the level of difficulty is similar. Get a grasp of the rules that will be used in your area first (there are several rulesets with minor difference - learn yours first before branching out).

As to websites. Here is good. The rest have a lot of, well, Tim-C-type people on them, and (at the risk of redundancy) have a lot of trolls just seeking to stir the pot and piss people off.

Come to think of it, that WAS redundant.

My advice... attend the Bruce Doane Sr Umpire Camp in Grand Rapids, MI on Feb 4 - 6. It is a great experience, even for entry level baseball officials, and you learn a lot while making many umpire friends. Email me, [email protected] for more info.
