catchers interference

In terms of calculating a batting average, when catchers interference is called and the batter did not hit the ball but was awarded 1st base due to the bat coming in contact with the catchers glove: is this considered an at bat and a hit, an at bat and no hit, not an official at bat treated like a BB)?

Umpires know very little about rule 10. Try reading rule 10 and then go to another board if you still have a question.

From reading some of the replies that we have had here recently, it would seem that some umpires don't know much about rules 1-9 either.

Some of us are scorers AND umpires.

From 10.02:
(1) Number of times he batted, except that no time at bat shall be charged against a player when (i) He hits a sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly (ii) He is awarded first base on four called balls (iii) He is hit by a pitched ball (iv) He is awarded first base because of interference or obstruction.


As far as batting average goes, getting first on CI is the same as a walk.
