My USSSA 10U All Star team played in a tournament this weekend on a relatively small field for this age. The foul lines were 165' and center was 182'. There were two large oak trees behind the left field fence that extended over the field. If a fly ball were to hit the branches, what would be the call? Live ball, ground rule double? Since no ground rules were discussed prior to the game, I would assume the trees would be considered part of the field. Live ball and play it off the tree. Fortunately this situation didn't occur, but it sure could have. A lefty from the other team hit it out to right center. Had he been a righty, it would have been in the trees.
