batter faced, no pitch?

A pitcher walks the first batter of the inning. The coach or manager visits the mound. Without pitching to the next batter, the pitcher makes a throwing error to first base allowing the runner to advance to 2nd. May the coach or manager then "pass" the 2nd batter to first base and replace the pitcher?

I’d think so. B2 has completed his time at bat.
