See, I don't think it's great. I think it is silly. Why copy the original? He doesn't need to give an explanation, especially one like this.

If it just "came out," that's one thing. Officials have probably had this one in the back of their minds for the last 20 years.
If he'd been looking for an opportunity to get that in someday, the fourth quarter of a 37-0 game between a couple of teams not going many places is as good as any, I reckon. If it was an homage, then good on ya, Ron.

A few other things I like about this clip, the preliminary signal is a personal foul yet the announcer says its a hold and the screen overlay say its a block in the back. You gotta love TV presentations.
