New official here with 2 questions.

The first refers to the uniform - belt or no belt? If you have belt loops does this change your stance?

The second is a situation question.

After a made basket, A1 picks the ball up on the baseline to inbound. Instead of inbounding he passes the ball to A2 who is also out of bounds on the baseline about 12 feet apart. A2 throws the ball in-bounds to A3.

It's completely your choice. However, beltless (pleated) slacks are the in thing right now and look a lot better, imo.

First of all...NO BELT AND NO BELT LOOPS. If you're starting out and have pants w/ loops and don't want to spend the money, still don't wear a belt.

For the second question, read rule 7-5-7. As a newbie, get to know that book!

I disagree. If you've got the loops, wear the belt. To me it'd look tacky.

Eh, to each their own. I'm just not a fan of the belt while officiating at all. If it were me, I'd take the loops off if I had them...

I've seen that done, but my understanding is the manual requires the belt if you have belt loops. Cut them off or wear a belt.
Where I ref, most guys just wear belted pants, so it's no big deal. I prefer beltless, but you just can't find beltless pants in town.

My suggestion is not to ever buy pants with a belt. Not because I said so, because whether we like it or not, we are compared to what officials across the board look like from the NBA to college ranks. You do not see any of those officials on TV with belts? This of course is a personal decision, but do not be completely surprised if folks do not like it and hold that little thing against you (right or wrong).

Nope, all the manual says is that the pants must be black with no flares....and....if you wear a belt, the belt should be black.Go with directives from your local association or state body.

Regarding the belts, most go beltless. However, find out what your area primarily does. If you're doing lower level games, belts are fine. If your pants have belt loops, you need to wear a belt.

Your play can be solved by looking at the throwin provisions in the rule book.

Forget it. Find a pair of black pants you feel comfortable with, learn which end of the whistle goes between your teeth, learn the ropes a bit...then you can worry about whether a belt is fashionable or not.
