Odd situation

Ok, this didn't totally happen...but my daughter and I are wondering what happens, if a player shoots a ball and it goes UP through the basket and then comes back down? Or, if it goes UP through the basket and bounces out of the top?

We had a player that shot it up through the basket, but it didn't go all the way through and just came back down. They just "rebounded" it and kept going.

I have misplaced my rule books from last year so can't look it up myself (I know, for shame!!).

Anyway, what's the call and what is the rule? I told my daughter I would ask at my association meeting, but I'm afraid of the ribbing I'd get! Thanks everyone.
