Improper Request
Is there an IR in NFHS? I looked in the book for a sanction for withdrawing a sub request before the request is recognized by an official's whistle.
In the NCAA, this is an Improper Request. But I don't see that in the FED rulebook. |

Ah...
The rule does say " YUD ... after the request has been recognized" But, I think it's supposed to be recognized as soon as the sub enters the zone. So ... now I have the same question you do. |

Substitution Not Always A Delay
No. If there is no whistle by the R2 to honor the substitution requst by the coach and no sub enters the zone and no delay is apparent, there is no yellow card. If the coach makes a substitution request and the sub never enters the zone and the coach withdraws the request immediately and, in the judgement of the R2, there is no delay, deny the request and move on. However, if you honor the request with a whistle and there is no substitution, there is delay YUD. (NFHS 10-2-7-2) Comment: This is why just because a coach signals a substitution, I hold my whistle until I see a player approaching the zone and only blow my whistle when the sub is IN the zone. If you blow the whistle to honor the substitution request too early, and there is no substitute for whatever reason, there is a YUD because you honored the request. zoz
