So, since we rarely see it wondering what that might actually look like on the following play: Play 2 is an extension of Play 1.

Play 1: Ball on A/30, during running play B commits FM (major). A20 fumbles at A/35. A86 recovers the fumble at A/40 and begins to run. A 86 is downed at the B/45. What are the penalty options and spot of enforcement for the FM?
Enforcement spot is the end of the related run (A/35).

So, Team A can have a 15-yard penalty enforced from the A/35 to the 50, or decline the penalty and take the result of the play at the B/45. A will almost certainly decline the penalty under normal circumstances; however, if the line-to-gain is beyond the B/45, A might accept the penalty and replay the down at the 50.

First foul has an enforcement spot at the A/35, penalty will leave the ball at the 50.

Second foul has an enforcement spot at the B/45, accepting this penalty will leave the ball at the B/30.

End of the run is at the B/40.

So, A can have the ball at the 50, the B/40, or the B/30. Almost certainly they will choose the B/30.
