Plus, we sometimes have a fill-in third official, and the routine of a complete, consistent pregame agenda helps get all of us on the same wavelength for that game.
I've been the fill-in on crews before, where the other two just say, "We don't need to do a pregame anymore...we work together all the time." That doesn't do much for the third guy. Plus, those are the crews whose casualness about pregame shows when they get out of the floor. Habits set in which didn't have a chance to get curbed due to same guys working together all the time without opportunity for self-checking.
For two-person crews, it's the same.

How long do you spend actually on pregame stuff? I have found 15 minutes is maybe, just barely enough time, especially with new partners.
