I'd have to say that "my best game" is a toss-up. (A) I had a game where, due to a no-show ref in a summer league, I ended up working a boys varsity game that I had no business in. Both teams had been in the state tournament the year before and went the next year. But my partner was very good, and very encouraging. He didn't take over, but gave me some good pep talks. I did a good job, kept control, and felt great. By the end of the game, the boys and I were chatting pleasantly, and both coaches told me I did a good job. One coach contacted the assignor and told HIM he'd be glad to have me anytime. I was high for weeks.
(B) Another boys varsity game at camp with two very good teams, fast pace, lots of tough calls, my commissioner, one of my class teachers from the past, and a mentor who helped me tremendously over the years all watching. I did a great job controlling a difficult coach, nailed a couple of block/charge calls and one no-call. Got my varsity status off that game. Still haven't come down off that high!
