+1...whatever route you and your doctors decide to go, make sure to follow through with any rehab or workout plan your docs put you on. Also, if you can, after you resolve this situation with your knee, I'd try and join a gym (or perhaps you can use the one at your school) and start a workout program that incorporates strengthening the muscles around your knee (talk to your doc about his before you do anything).

I have a HealthRider & Treadmill at my disposal.
The PT I went through did help for a little bit, so my knee's better than it could be.
