Not using the lanyard makes you more conscious of the whistle, so you have a slower whistle. I've done it in AAU and yes, it does work.
We have several guys who don't use a whistle lanyard. I would say 99% of people in the building have no idea they don't have a lanyard.

I wasn't talking about a slower whistle. I was commenting on the person who said that it was quicker NOT to use a lanyard.
As for hygiene, really? Placing a whistle in your hand is more hygenic than letting it hang from a lanyard?
It is a personal preference, like I prefer the breakaway lanyards then the regular loop ones. YOu say tomato I say bolognese sauce!
