We have several guys who don't use a whistle lanyard. I would say 99% of people in the building have no idea they don't have a lanyard.
I wasn't talking about a slower whistle. I was commenting on the person who said that it was quicker NOT to use a lanyard.
As for hygiene, really? Placing a whistle in your hand is more hygenic than letting it hang from a lanyard?
It is a personal preference, like I prefer the breakaway lanyards then the regular loop ones. YOu say tomato I say bolognese sauce!

I don't think I would ever go that route. But there are plenty of guys who chew gum during games, and I don't do that, either. If it works for them, and they are effective in managing a game, who cares?

But, the thing left unsaid by BillyMac is, wait for it....Aren't they violating the First Rule of Officiating?

Depends? How far down into their waistband are they putting the whistle.

Seen it too many times. I don't have a problem with no lanyard, but I do have a problem with "practicing" during a varsity basketball game. If you are going to do this, you best get comfortable with it during church leagues or someplace where you won't be humiliated, or worse, humiliate your partners.
