Read the OP again, he didn't just ignore the seat belt, he "popped up
and popped off." With that info, I wouldn't even speculate that the partner may have been quick with the toss.
As for mixed emotions, a lot of us get that when we have to take care of business. It's not that we have didn't want to take care of it, but we (I) just don't like to it get to that point.
Mixed emotions don't equal regrets.
