Those are scheduled scrimmages and here in VA high school scrimmages are regulated by the VHSL.
If I'm scheduled to work a game, and the game is a forfeit, I'm not officiating the ensuing "scrimmage" or "pick-up" game. And I don't feel bad about it. I showed up for work, not my fault if one of the teams didn't.
