Can one infer that 'team possession' is the same as 'team control'?
No...they are not the same. Team possession is not an explicitly defined term but it basically includes team control and any time when a team is due a throwin after a made basket, after a violation or foul by the other team, or after a timeout is granted. Essentially, one team always has "possession" once the game starts.

Example:

A1 deserves a FT that is not awarded. Instead, A is given the ball for a throwin. A eventually commits a violation or foul. Before the ball is given to B for the throwin, the error is discovered. What next? A1 gets the merited FT with no one on the lane. B1 will get the ball for a throwin at the spot nearest the violation. Team possesion changed at the moment of the violation.
