Being on the other side of that border, I can empathize with these statements. We try to split up the out-of-town trips so that each official only has a couple of the longer ones.
BTW, you weren't in Wendover were you?
For those on the board that don't know Wendover is a small town on the Utah/Nevada border. Half of the town is in Nevada and the other half lies in Utah. Apparently, one of the two high schools, West Wendover, plays in the Eastern Nevada league and the other plays in Utah. There is a current debate about this town making a decision to be part of one state or the other.
This is actually not all that uncommon out West as I'm sure some of the officials from Idaho, Arizona, etc. can confirm.
In fact, there are several California teams that play in the Nevada leagues and compete for Nevada state championships because their California "neighbors" are simply too far away. South Lake Tahoe is one such example.
