Does anyone else think that many of these coaches actually do know the rule, but scream when they are obviously incorrect anyway as an attempt to just get their team the ball?
For example, the coach probably knows you can stand on the 8" OOB line during a throw-in, but he may believe that if he starts pointing and yelling the official will have a momentary lapse and call a violation. He may even have been successful with this tactic before. And hey, if he doesn't get the call, no big deal. He most likely didn't get any penalty for being wrong. So why not try?
I call this trying to take advantage of a weak official. And sadly, I have seen it work.
