I have a runner safe at first. Once the umpire called time for the injury, he cannot allow an appeal until she has an opportunity to complete her running responsibilities. Since she was temporarily unable, the umpire must place her on the base he believes she earned.

In this case, she obviously is awarded first base, no appeal can be heard until she (or a substitute, if necessary) returns to first base; and then, it is obviously too late for her to be called out on appeal.
