More interesting was the way the Referee, from the ACC, Jack Childress, handled the instructions after USC won the toss.
First he gave the options in this order: Receive, Kickoff, Defend a goal, or Defer. USC Deferred.
Then after reporting that choice, he said "Michigan, you want the football. Which way you wanna kick?"
Didn't really give anyone a chance to screw up anything.

The only thing I would change is I wouldn't ask them if they wanted to Defend a goal, only Kick, Receive, or Defer. Not on a wonderful weather day they were having in Cal.
