There's no protest but coaches 'protest' calls all the time. If a coach wants to use a timeout to look up a rule concerning a call you just made, so be it.
protest - an expression or declaration of objection, disapproval, or dissent,
often in opposition to something a person is powerless to prevent or avoid. That last part's pretty funny!
