I agree with you, but I'm still wondering where it is written that the L does
not have the count. FishinRef found the reference to "The Center or Trail, who has a 5-second closely guarded count in the front court," (Pg 48). But, again, it doesn't say the L should not have the count.
Maybe we need to have that discussion again about if something is not specifically mentioned, is it allowed, or not allowed?
