Whoa, whoa, whoa

The teams are allowed a 3 min. warm-up period. They are not mandated to use it for that purpose. Wheh it states the coach is responsible, it just means we as officials aren't required to go drag them out and make them warm-up.

'06 Casebook: 3.1.1 Situation C: "upon returning to the field near the end of the normal 15 min. halftime intermission, the officials notice one team standing quietly in front of its bench for the entire 3 minutes posted for warm-up.

The officials (a) start the game as soon as the 3 min. have elapsed, or (b) inform the coach of that team that he must have his team actively warm-up by running or doing some kind of exercises.

Ruling: The officials are correct in (a) but in error in (b). The rules book contains no definition of what constitutes a warm up. It simply requires that an opportunity to warm-up be made available."

In NC most associations just tack the 3 min on to whatever the HC says halftime will be 15=18, 20=23 (max)
