Just out of curiosity, were the games you saw ACC vs. ACC or were they inter-conference? Maybe they're only being used for conference play (insuring that all the officials are ACC and actually have the correct shirt).

Maryland at NCSU
The Duke vs Davidson game that is being referred to in this post is non-conference.
