In my state all we have to do is fill out our name and our ID number on the official scorebook. Now this is for rating purposes. We do not have to give out our ID number at any lower level games. Ratings are only used for varsity games so they can be used for post season consideration.
What you are describing might happen in other places but I would not assume it takes place with most of us. I know the ADs probably have that information so we get paid, but we do not give it directly to the coaches.
