What did Eli say to Brown when he "fired back"?
First, regardless of what Eli said when he "fired back", Brown's comment is T-worthy. If Eli's comment was inappropriate, I'm sure Ronnie Nunn already has Brown's report and Eli will be disciplined. But that doesn't excuse Brown's comment. (And in any case, I'd bet that Eli's comment was not personal toward Brown.)

Second, working the NBA is not like working regional D3 ball or high school ball or even D1 ball, for that matter. There are only 30 head coaches and only 60 officials. You see each other a dozen times or more over the course of a season; not 3 or 4, like you would in college or high school. So you have to draw your line immediately. You can't just say, "Well, I'm gonna get through this game and then I'll never see that coach again." You have to let each coach and player know that you're not "the new kid"; you're "the law". You don't want to beat them over the head with that attitude, but they have to know that they're not gonna be able to mess with you.

If Eli is suspended for a game, then we'll know you were onto something. But I'd be surprised if he is.
