See "rental car" and "hotel" taxes for GREAT examples. Try renting a car in Seattle once -- the taxes are 50% of the rate.
That hasn't been my experience and I rent a car at Seatac at least twelve times a year. I'll check my last receipt and figure the percentage.
However, when I went to the Desert Classic last year, the combined taxes on the rental at Phoenix International increased the rental by over 65%. That included a special tax for their new football stadium and the traditional screw the tourist taxes by the state, city and county.
