I am also a basketball official that decided to pick up
vb 2 years ago, my partner also picked it up this year. It is NOT a hard sport to officiate. I think the hardest thing about it is judgement and staying awake, not zoning out. What area are you in? Coaches and players, from my expierence, are more mellow than they are in basketball. I would go for it, if you wish, i have some literature that will help you, E-mail me and i will send it to you.
