My mistake. I answered the post hurriedly this morning without considering what I was saying. If the 3 point attempt is successful, the shooter gets 2 FTs and the ball. If the shot is missed, he gets 3 FTs and the ball. It's explained, though not very well, in the Summary of Penalties for All Fouls. You don't penalize the shooter by only giving him 2 FTs on an unsuccessful 3 attempt.
