BTW, as the only one I've noticed stating HS & LL affiliation, how difficult are the differences? I know NFHS best, then PONY, ASA, NCAA. My granddaughter just started softball this year and I was ignoring the rules to keep down my confusion. But now she mad an all-star team and if I make it to any of those games, I guess the rules will be more important. Please provide advice.
Hi CecilOne:
Some basic softball differences between NFHS and LL:
Little League: Pitching limits effective based on age group, no advance on non caught 3rd strike for the Major and Minor level (12/U), 3 or 4 defensive time outs per each pitcher, ball only to batter on non hit illegal pitch (pitching requirements are generally same as NFHS), no 15 run rule after 3 innings (10 run rule effective), slightly different wording for the "look back" rule, catchers are required to wear "dangling" throat protector, no CR although there is a "special pinch runner" rule, no DP/flex although Big League (16 and up) has a DH rule, player entry (subs) varies somewhat from NFHS based on LL regular season and tournament play.
You can check http://www.littleleague.org to obtain more info or poss. request a rule book from your granddaughter's LL organization.
I hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Sam
