Most of the better officials I know are multiple sport officials. Now that does not mean it is automatic that you will have success or be a good official at all. I have just found that the skills it takes to be a good baseball umpire are the same skills it takes to be a good football, basketball or softball umpire as well (or just plug in any sport). At the end of the day officials are basically dealing with people. Of course we need to know the rules and mechanics, but the good officials know how to manage people and the game most of all.
