Then, the Knicks played the Rockets in the NBA Finals after MJ first retired. The ratings were terrible and the NBA soon forced the physical style of play to go away.

It's still pretty darn physical, especially in the playoffs. I think the world of NBA officials and their way of doing things. I don't think this would have worked on them, they break down way too much video.
