Maybe "stay with the shooter" is a better term than "protect the shooter." We shouldn't be giving any more protection to the offensive player than we give to the defensive player should we?

It's just a saying, Zebe. I suppose different people mean different things by it. The advantage gained by the defender if she gives a slight bump to the shooter, is probably greater and more worthy of a call than the advantage gained if the shooter gives a slight bump to the defender. So it looks as though we're calling it tighter on the shooter, yea.
