Certainly not for sports in general, however soccer (futbol)seems to attract a disproportionate share of violence as compared to other "contact" sports.

There is something wrong when a professional sport has riot police in regular atttendance in South America and in some European countries.

Soccer (futbol) attracts a disproportionate share of the world's sports fans, so more of everything.

What about the police required at HS basketball and football games?

My point is that the same person acting as a soccer official in this example probably would have done the same thing in another sport. Given the country it occurred in, there are a lot of tensions and fears we don't understand.

But I'm glad you agree that it's a "black eye" for all of us, not just sports and certainly not just one sport.
