Hmmmmmm, has it occured to anyone that the batter reached 1st during a live ball dropped 3rd strike and only left the bag AFTER time had been called? Seems to me that by appealing the coach just gave the batter 1st.
Look at it this way. Batter checks swing but thinks a strike is going to be called and heads to 1st because of the dropped ball. Do you tell her that she can't take off for 1st untill you call strike 3? Of course not she's heads up. Why would you in this case take her off 1st after the appeal?
I say give her 1st and next time the coach will not make the same mistake.
