The play as I understand it is R1 and R2. One out. Batted ball is caught in flight. R1 and R2 left too early(did not retouch) and ended up at 3rd and scored.
Fed rules. End of playing action R1 and R2 are both out for failing to retouch. 3 outs, inning over. The only thing I see the coach needing to pick is his nose.
Roger with all due respect, please re-read thread again, there was r2/r3 B1 hits a gapper in which the fielder makes a good catch. r2/r3 leave early. R3 scores R2 is now on third 2 outs (as a result of the catch).
Now end of playing action - we have 2 runners who left early, per the Technical ruling 9-1-1(e), the defensive team selects which out they want.
Therefore, my question was do we instruct the team or simply declare out r3 (most advantageous out).
Bob's response to me makes sense.
